Forming a New HPHL Team
If you are interested in starting a new team in the High Plains Hockey League (HPHL), please review the information below and complete the Petition to Join the League. Submissions are due by December 31st to be considered for the upcoming spring season.

Key Information for Starting a New Team
Roster Minimums
- A deadline will be set before the end of HPHL registration, by which the new team must have:
- At least 13 skaters and 1 goalie registered.
- If this minimum is not met:
- The team will be disbanded.
- Players will be reassigned or refunded.
Starting a Varsity Team
Seniors:
- Seniors who played in the HPHL the previous year may choose to:
- Remain with their former team, OR
- Join the new varsity team.
Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors:
- Students attending the school forming the new varsity team must play for the new team, even if they participated with another HPHL club previously.
Starting a JV Team
Seniors:
- Seniors who played in the HPHL the prior year may choose to:
- Stay with their former team, OR
- Join the new JV team.
New Players:
- Players new to the HPHL who attend the school forming the new JV team will play for the new team.
Sophomores and Juniors:
- Students who attended the school forming the new JV team and participated in the HPHL the previous spring:
- May try out for their former club’s varsity team.
- If selected for the top varsity team, they may remain with their former club.
